Albert does it again!

Niels AlbertNiels Albert took the win in the final round of the Cyclo-Cross World Cup Series but it was Stybar who clinched overall victory with a 2nd place finish. the British contingent of Crawforth, Field and Oldham managed top 50 finishes but were far behind leader Albert.

The womens race was won by the in form Marianne Vos but she was narrowly beaten to the overall series title by fellow Dutch rider Daphny Van den Brand. It was a good day for the British women as Wyman finished 13th just ahead of Harris in 15th and Day in 22nd. There was also a strong ride by U.S rider Amy Dombroski who chased the leaders for much of the race.

Sky Light Up Tour Down Under

Chris SuttonIt was a perfect end to the first race for Team Sky with a 1-2 for Chris Sutton and Greg Henderson. The Aussie kept his cool to take a deserved victory after a great display by the new boys on the block at Team Sky. It gave the team the overall victory in the points classification and a 3rd place overall for Greg Henderson. The overall winner of the Tour was Andre Greipel who dominated the opening stages and used his HTC Columbia team to hold on to the lead until the final whistle.

World Championship XC Team chosen


The team for the 2009 World Championships has been chosen by the British Cycling Federation. The championships which take place in Australia will be an opportunity for Great Britain to make a mark with realistic hopes of some top 10 finshes.

Tour of Poland

Alessandro BallanAlessandro Ballan held on to win the Tour of Poland by just 10 seconds amongst a strong field of riders including Ivan Basso, Edvald Boasson Hagen, former Mountain Biker Fredrick Kessiakoff and British rider Ian Stannard.

Kabush & Byberg take wins in Bromont WC!

Geoff KabushGeoff Kabush and Lene Byberg both took their first World Cup wins in Bromont, Canada. Apalling conditions saw most riders lose the use of their brakes in the gritty mud and with World Cup leader, Julien Absalon having technical difficulties, Kabush took full advantage amongst a star studded field. Other notable performances came from Cristoph Sauser (13th) who steadily makes his way up the rankings as we head towards the World Championships and a 21st position for Liam Killeen.

Byberg too put in an incredible ride to take her first win at the age 27 beating Irina Kalentieva by over two minutes and taking the series jersey from Margarita Fullana Riera.

New Drug Scandals!

Mikel AstarlozaJust when we thought that the curse of the dopers had started to dwindle Giro D'Italia runner up Danilo Di Luca and Tour De France stage winner Mikel Astarloza have tested positive for the banned substance CERA!

While Astarloza maintains his innocence pending his B sample analysis, Di Luca is treading a tight rope having previously been banned for drug use and with both A and B samples returning a positive result, his career looks to be in tatters.

Armstrong to launch Pro Road Team!

Radio ShackLance Armstrong has announced that he will be heading a new team backed by American Electronics firm, Radio Shack. The project will be likely to include Livestrong among other brands that have been associated with the Texan throughout most of his career. The team will now be looking for riders with names such as the Schleck brothers and Mark Cavendish being linked with the team.

Sunshine Cup

Sunshine Cup Race Series

Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010 is fixed. The well known mountainbike race series on Cyprus does it compact next year. Two weeks, from 21st of February to 7th of March the pro riders will fight for the overall on three weekends of competition. New: for hobby bikers the Aphrodite Trophy was originated. This contains a mountain run and a mountainbike marathon on the weekend 20/21 of March.

For a lot of world class mountainbikers the races of the Cyprus Sunshine Cup are fitting closely into their training schedule. To give more riders the opportunity to compete for the overall classement as well as for the 29 000 Euro prize money altogether, the Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010 has been packed into three weekends.

Rider Interview - Lee Williams


Lee Williams Cyclenoodle managed to catch up with up and coming Elite Cross Country Racer Lee Williams fresh after his win in the Welsh National Championships at Pontypool Park, South Wales. Lee has developed over the last few seasons from a shy retiring young racer who would often turn up to races in his Grey jogging bottoms, pull his old bike out of the car and quietly go about destroying most of the competition. Today he is very much a rising talent, sponsored, supported and competing on the World stage with the very best.

Beastway Series - Race Night 3!

Beastway RainbowA heavy rain shower hit the race prior to the start and this turned the first lap into a mud fest, but as the race progressed the course settled down and we saw close, fast racing. Dan Oakley (Chelmer) had led on lap one but like a number of others he succumbed to the mud early on.

This week saw a Master and a Vet taking first and second place overall but the winner of the Expert Men was Paul Wilkinson. William Jones had a storming ride to win the Masters race and just behind him was Paul Hudson, winner of the Veteran category.
