May 09: Jon Locke joins Sports Bean Wilier
The latest addition to the
Sports Bean Wilier team Jon Locke is now in the saddle of his new Cento Uno. Jonathan
Tiernan Locke – to give him his full name – joined SB-W’s Premier Calendar outfit
late in the day and was riding one of last year’s Le Roi team bikes because he was
not in at the start of the season.
Nevertheless he took his Wilier to first place in the 80 mile Blackdown Grand Prix
in Somerset and that ride was enough to persuade ATB Sales boss Derek Farrant to
come up with the goods and get Jon on a Cento1.
Derek said: “When our Polish superstar Marcin got injured it did send a shock wave
through the entire team but Jon stepped up to the plate on a bike that was more
than a year old and did the business for us. It was a great ride.”
Jon’s win prompted the bike suppliers ATB Sales to chase Wilier for a new Cento
Uno for the cycle star and it was delivered via Colin Lewis Cycles in Devon, where
Jon works part time.
He said: “It’s great to be on a Cento Uno. It’s a fine bike and with Marcin on the
mend we can cement our place at the top team in the series. Considering we are not
backed with huge money like some of our competitors it is the team spirit and great
bikes that push us to glory. We are going to go all the way!”
